Ben played guitar in Sproton Layer (1970), a psychedelic rock quartet with brothers’ Roger ( Mission of Burma) and Laurence (Destroy All Monsters). Sproton Layer was described as Syd Barrett fronting Cream in “Our Band Could Be Your Life”, a book by Michael Azzarad.
Ben played alto sax in Destroy All Monsters (1977-78) which included Ron Asheton (The Stooges) and Michael Davis ( The MC5). DAM opened up for Pere Ubu, The Ramones, Devo, Suicide, and others.
“While not as well known as the Stooges or the MC5, Destroy All Monsters were another Ann Arbor band whose influence far outstretched its life as an active band. Combining art punk, free jazz, garge rock and lead singer Niagara’s histrionics, Destroy All Monsters were the hidden link between the Velvet Underground and no-wave bands like Sonic Youth. ”

Originally a seven-piece garage art rock band with two rhythm sections, GKW (1982-1994) eventually became a duet based on minimalism with a performance art approach using stereo prepared guitars, multiple stereo tape loops, analog synths, and other outmoded technologies.
M3, an experimental band with brothers’ Roger and Laurence released two CDs btw 1989 – 2001; one on SST and the other on Sublingual.
Ben played prepared stereo guitar for Chicago’s Dirty Old Man River (1997 – 2000), and can be heard on The Saddest Movie Screen and Ageless.
Ben Miller / degeneration , performing since 2000, features Ben’s prepared stereo guitar based on assorted parameters of open-ended improvisation.
Third Border , performing since 2003, features Ben’s return to songwriting. Their new CD “Sun of Water, Sea of Light” was chosen as one of 48 candidates for possible Grammy nomination in the 2006 ‘Alternative Album of the year’ category.
