Anton was born in Leningrad, now called St. Petersburg. He took his first guitar lesson at the age of fifteen, inspired by the music of classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. When Anton realized that music is his natural passion, he began studying music more seriously, and after learning theory and solfegio for a year, Anton enrolled in Mussorgsky College of Music in the jazz program in 1991.
While studying jazz harmony and improvisation, he formed a band and began to play gigs in local clubs, performing original songs as well as covers of the songs by American icons such as James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and Buddy Guy. At the time, they found little support from club audience, since those artists’ music was largely unknown in Russia.
To support himself, Anton began to teach private lessons on guitar.
In 1998, Anton became a legal resident of the United States. His decision to move to New York was motivated largely by his long time fascination with American music forms, such as blues, rock’n’roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz.
Today Anton is actively performing and teaching guitar and piano, in and outside of New York City.
