The son of a classical guitarist father and jazz pianist mother, Andrés was named after his father’s idol, the famed Spanish classical guitarist Andrés Segovia. After picking up the guitar at a young age and learning from his father and the diverse recordings that made up his youth, Andrés began peaking ears as a teenager in his native Boston. In 2001 and again in 2002 he won the honor of the best rock guitarist in Boston for his versatile and fluent playing. He also began working as a session player at this time and with the seminal Boston metal band 69 Daze.

Andrés continued to develop and expand his skills by studying and graduating summa cum laude from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he studied guitar and voice performance, classical composition and music education. Despite many recordings projects a a sideman from blues to heavy metal and jazz, it was not until 2006 that he released his own first album, Ink & Sound, with his original band, the Waters, to critical acclaim.

Andrés has also studied music at the Boston Conservatory, linguistics and world literatures at Harvard University, and he is currently finishing his M.A. in medieval studies and texts at Columbia University. Having lectured, taught in schools and privately for over ten years, his teaching stresses technique, tradition, individuality and learning through playing. Andrés looks forward to teaching you!
